Morgan Wilshire: Inspiration for a Wrestling Character

By Rob Sutter

Just looking at the title, I can probably guess what you're thinking right now. Something such as, "wrestling and broker-dealers being paired up? Yeah, that can't fail," probably came to mind. While the idea seems odd, keep in mind that wrestling characters have a tendency to come about from anywhere. They are made by good ideas that seem to stick and perhaps the same can be said for a character inspired by Morgan Wilshire, to name one broker-dealer. With this said, how can such a wrestler behave in World Wrestling Entertainment?

Morgan Wilshire is classified as a broker-dealer, which means that it trades securities on behalf of clients as well as itself. At first, I thought the idea of a broker-dealer could only apply to wrestling managers. After all, they are able to conduct business well and wrestlers typically aren't known to be as business-savvy in comparison. Drawing inspiration from a company like M.W.S. isn't difficult but the ability to parlay that into a real character can be interesting.

I am of the opinion that a broker-dealer wrestler, which is a rather odd title, cannot belong to a specified allegiance. Wrestlers normally either fall under the babyface or heel alignment, either being cheered or booed by the fans. It's not often that a talent doesn't play to either side and simply straddles the line. A broker-dealer can work well by not having an allegiance since that's the best way to do business. There should be no bias when working with a sound mind, so any personal feelings must be kept the wayside.

Soon enough, the conflict for a wrestler could emerge. The Miz is one of those wrestlers who is easy to hate. He can instigate a fight with his words alone and his obnoxious personality makes him a great antithesis for anyone. The buttons of a businessman could easily be pushed by someone like this. As much as he takes care of business within the ring, he'd want to still remain on neutral ground outside of it. A strong feud such as this could easily disrupt life for this particular wrestler and business is made uncomfortable as a result.

A broker-dealer wrestler, if executed correctly, could be an engaging wrestler that can connect with the fans well. A straight-laced businessman is someone that people could relate to since they may be the same in their own lives. However, WWE is full of conflict and there exists those select few that want to cause havoc in their own ways. In such a wild world, the straight man can be a great asset since people can easily relate to someone who is considered just like them.
